Event: Island in the Sky Trail Trials 2024 @ Pebble Beach on the Grand Mesa

wow, Wow WOW!!!!! 56 riders registered for an amazing 9 mile trail ride on The Top of The Grand Mesa on Saturday August 10, 2024. The weather forecast looked dreadful depending on which forecast you looked at. The AccuWeather forecast was the best “Intervals of clouds and sunshine with a thundershower on the prowl in the afternoon”. There were thunderstorms on the prowl, but not where the ride was located. WE lucked OUT, NO RAIN!
It took 40 wonderful club members and spouses to volunteer to make this event successful. Getting judging teams out to 10 different locations spread across 16,000 acres with limited road access is a puzzle. Our members really stepped up and drove their own vehicles out and took pride in their obstacles.
Holly organized the volunteers with assistance from Penny. CJ handled all the registrations, bill paying and answered most of the questions from potential participants. Brandy and Juleen organized the trail and the obstacles.
Fire and Ice was a new obstacle and included a Lemonade Stand with Protein Bars, Candy Bars, Peanuts and Beemer treatments. We altered the trail from 2023, by creating the Pebble Beach By-Pass to keep our equines off of the ROCK HARD Forest Service Road 108.
The feedback from the Riders was glowing on Facebook and in person. The kind words from riders and observers makes us all think we want to do this again in 2025. The Dad Jokes along the way, helped riders relax and realize this was really just for fun!
Thank you wonderful Club Members, all who participated in the amazing event! It took every single one of you to make this Fund Raiser the Successful Event it turned out to be.
