Ride: April Birthday, Rusty Nail Birthday Ride
Trail Boss: Juleen Feazell
Date: April 6, 2024
The April 6, 2024 Birthday Ride kicked off WSCSC’s Ride Season. Hopefully the weather will be better for our club rides for the remainder of the year.
Originally 20 members had signed up for this ride. The weather forecast looked grim and participants started dropping like flies.
9 riders had hoped they would be back at the trailers before the wind really kicked up. However the wind was hollowing before they headed down the trail. 2 riders decided it was took cold to ride. The 7 ladies who headed out, most knowing, in less than 1/2 miles, the trail would drop down into a canyon where they would be shielded from the wind.
Riders were treated to a less wind once they dropped down into the canyon heading towards the Squint Moore Archeological site. When the small group arrived at the site it was snowing lightly. The gals decided having our Potluck might be better suited back at the trailhead in someone’s horse trailer. 5 of the ladies hiked up to the site. CJ and Maggie stayed on their horses shivering. Kristie and Pauline had never seen the site and where interested in the rock art.
Heading back was a bit swifter and somehow we were all having a great time. “Being on a Horse” always beats “Not Being on a Horse”.
Potluck in Juleen’s trailer, manure was shoveled out, table cloth placed on the floor, mounting blocks became chairs and out came the food. Bob and Barb had generously left their goodies behind for the ladies to share. It was a wee bit crowded but we had a great time. Giggling, swapping tales of similar crazy adventures, good food and friendship was something most of us will remember for a while.
