Island in the Sky Trail Trials 2023 | Grand Mesa, Colorado
The results are in, the riders had a blast and all the volunteers were amazing. Island in the Sky was held on September 16, 2023 on Lands End Road and Forest Service Road 108. Holly came up with a great name for this camp site. “Pebble Beach” formerly known as the “Gravel Pit”.
34 riders competed in four different age group divisions. The ride was a nine mile loop, passing through pine trees, high mountain meadows and five different reservoirs. There were 10 natural obstacles along the trail, judged by members of the club. This is the first year this ride has been done by the club since 2019.
Penny took on the daunting task as Chairwomen. Twenty-six members showed up and for trail marking, rider registration, camping, pre-riding, judging, results tallying, drag riding and awards. Three additional non-members helped with judging and drag riding. Six husbands or Significant Others helped with everything from tent building, stake pounding, horse babysitting and parking, to jumping vehicles that would not start. We had 34 riders compete and 35 volunteers to help pull off this event.
